Goal Setting

Goal Setting

SMART is an effective tool that provides the clarity, focus, and motivation you need to achieve your goals. Also, it can improve your ability to reach them by encouraging you to define your objectives and set a completion date. SMART goals are easy to use by anyone, anywhere, without the need for specialist tools or training.

A S.M.A.R.T. goal is defined as one that is specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time- bound. Below is a definition of each of the S.M.A.R.T. goal criteria.

Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

What do I want to accomplish?
Why is this goal important?
Who is involved?
Where is it located?
Which resources or limits are involved?

Measurable (meaningful, motivating).

How much?
How many?
How will you know when its accomplished?

Achievable (agreed, attainable).
How can I accomplish this goal?
How realistic is this goal?

Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

Is this worthwhile?
Is this the right time?
Does this meet my needs?
It’s the effort worth the outcome?

Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

When?
What can you do today?
What can you do weeks from now?
What can be done months from now?
