how much water should you drink a day?

You’ve already googled this question probably about a hundred times, so let’s get right to it.

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the recommended daily fluid intake is:

  • 104 ounces/13 cups (3.1 liters) for men.

  • 73 ounces/9 cups (2.1 liters) for women.

And that’s the answer! But also remember that…

  • size

  • metabolism

  • diet

  • physical activity

  • and general health

…all factor into how much YOU need to drink every day.

Some other “fun” facts:

  • Older Adults 65+ are at an increased risk of missing thirst cues, so be sure to keep track of how much you’re drinking rather than going by how thirsty you feel.

  • Foods high in water to help you stay hydrated: watermelon, cucumbers, oranges, strawberries, tomatoes, and celery.

  • Staying hydrated helps:  improve blood flow, aid digestion, maintain your joints, and boost skin appearance.
