5 Ways to Achieve Your Daily Step Goal from Your Friendly Local Personal Trainer in Westlake

You’ve heard it before: adults (whether you’re an adult over fifty or under fifty) should aim for 8,000-10,000 steps daily to improve overall physical health, with benefits ranging from weight loss, lower blood pressure, and even reducing the risk of dementia. So that’s roughly an hour of walking a day, and in our busy lives, we all know just how precious an hour of our time can be, so what are some ways we can squeeze more activity into our day without feeling like it’s being squeezed in?

1: Start the morning off right

Mornings are sometimes the quietest time of day before all our daily responsibilities have fully taken hold. Add in a 10-15 minute walk before your day gets started, preferably after a healthy breakfast.

2: Breaktime!

Take advantage of your lunchtime break. Walk around the block, the office, school, or sneak off to a local walking trail if you have the time. (Check out your nearest Cleveland Metroparks! The Rocky River Reservation is one of our favorites around here.) An after-lunch walk will also help your blood sugar levels stay regulated, and your digestive system will thank you, too.

3: Take the scenic route

Out running errands, and the weather isn’t Cleveland’s usual rain, snow, or sleet? Park further away from the building for some extra steps there and back from your car.

4: Take the stairs

Whether you're out and about at appointments or at home, take the stairs whenever you are able. If you have stairs at home, take multiple trips on purpose just to get that extra movement in!

5: Lastly, a totally shameless self plug

Lastly, come join us at Live Fit!
